There are many Mughal miniatures of emperors holding spinels.
Spinels look like rubies but they aren’t, they were prized by the Mughals for their talismanic qualities in battle. Many are inscribed with names of emperors.
Timur Spinel (Pic 4) is said to be the largest one.

Garuda in indian art form.
As we all know Garuda is vahana of Sri Vishnu.
I'm not sure why Garuda is referred to as an Eagle. An Eagle is a bird while Garuda is a half man - half bird creature.
Can anyone explain??
