Honestly, Bonk's Adventure on the NES doesn't look like the massive step-down from the TG-16 version that you'd think it would. It actually looks very colorful and is among the best looking NES games I've played. Gameplay feels.. better in my opinion?! It's smoother. #IGCvNES

Why couldn't the Dragon Quest 8-bit remakes instead do art like this?

With the ability to Switch between the original 8 bit graphics and the new graphics on the fly? I'd paid MORE for a game that went this extra mile.
