Le mot "panique" est d'origine grecque et vient de Pan, dieu protecteur des bergers et des pâturages, mi-homme, mi-bouc, qui terrorisait les voyageurs du fait des cris abominables qu'il émettait. Il causait ainsi la "panique" qui s'ensuivait.
