The creator was prob unaware of the history behind US cartoons but it's crazy how far reaching antiBlack racism is that it pops up in such unexpected places. The history from blackface to modern animation is really something.

My drawing strategy is to scribble like a maniac until it makes sense. So basically my layers look like this –

1. WTF is that even human?
2. Something's there but still VERY wrong
3-38. PAAAAAAAIIIIN
39. Ok, maaaybe I can work with this
40-50. Fake it (ink/color) until I make it

Lastly, fairies aren't the only creatures without pupils. Basically any non-human has pupils including alien species. We've seen this with the the Yugopotamians, The Gigglepies and the Boudacians.
