so many of twilight's other mentors have debilitating character flaws in one way or another, so i think the relative stability and kindness of twilight's parents went a long way in her not ending up like sunset or her other evil counterparts

actually my real takeaway is that twilight's parents are extremely supportive and encouraging of her, which is rly sweet, and that tracks with what we learn about them later
