Quick visual notes while working through my next Skillshare class, demonstrating how to see and record light/shade/shadow in a way that complements quick line sketches to create drawings that can transport the viewer. It’s great fun.
I wanted to bring gifts from home for my fellow instructors and the school director when we taught a few weeks ago at the Madeline Island School for the Arts on Lake Superior. Safe to say this set the tone for the week. The rest of the story’s on the page. 🤙
Storm clouds rolling in, Anna Marie Island, FL. Sketched on location. #urbansketchers #travelartist
Searching for spirit of place: This is a studio painting created today, based on an on-location thumbnail sketch I made from the small bridge linking Siesta Key and Bay Isle. The view is looking north to Big Pass. #siestakey
On location yesterday at Siesta Key Beach. Folks were generally doing a good job of distancing between family groups. Met a few nice passers-by.
Sketching spirit of place: A little 5x9 inch field sketch of Siesta Key’s Point of Rocks made earlier this week led to yesterday’s studio painting.
Chilling at O’Leary’s in Sarasota with a comfy chair, beer and sketchbook is a challenge, but one I’m willing to brave to bring you glimpses of life in this little corner of Florida. It wasn’t as crowded as it looks; patrons were distancing appropriately. #urbansketchers
A quick detail sketch of the angel sculptures that adorn the facade of the Bass Performance Hall in downtown Fort Worth. I never get tired of them. #urbansketchers
By request, my series of sketches of Hurricane Irma, drawn on location during the storm, are now available as high quality prints...
