Want to draw, but can’t think of WHAT to draw? Looking to expand your repertoire of doodles? I often do this “Alphabet Doodles” exercise—drawing something that begins with each letter, from A to Z. Limit yourself to things you’ve never drawn before to make it more of a challenge!
I recently drew this GRAPHIC NOVELS lettering for another project, and this morning repurposed it for this poster featuring a couple characters from my Hunger Heroes graphic novels. Would any educators or librarians want it if I put it up for free download at my website?
At most of my school visit sessions, I make a comic with the kids, using nothing but their ideas and suggestions. Sometimes, back home, I’ll give a comic or two the ol’ digital treatment. Here’s a gussied up version of a comic I made with kindergarteners here in MA last week.
This month, fortuitously, I get to work on a spooky-cute book I’ve got coming out in 2024. I can’t share too much about it — but I CAN introduce you to some of the characters! Here’s Itsy: a bold, super-loyal spider with an exceptional sense of humor and strong sense of justice.
I know it doesn’t look like it here, but this kid actually had a great day today. More info soon! 🤐
A favorite spread from Snack Cabinet Sabotage, the second volume of my Hunger Heroes series of graphic novel chapter books. It comes out Sept. 13th but can be preordered now wherever books are sold. Preorder from @silverunicornbooks to get yours signed:

You don’t necessarily need to know how to draw lots of different things in order to draw, really, ANYthing. I made this drawing using nothing but letter-U shapes. For me, drawing is about building on the page using a limited number of simple shapes, basic lines, and letters.
