The pokemon of this generation are all just ok. Some stand out more than others, but there is a lot of pokemon that are fairly boring. However, the great pokemon more than makeup for the weak ones.

I played pokemon Red and Pokemon Yellow through the 3DS virtual console several years ago, and while a somewhat boring experience, I still look back on those playthroughs with fond memories of being lost in the Seafoam Islands and Sweeping with my starter.

It's easy as a long-time fan who didn't grow up with Red and Blue to look back on these games and dislike them because of all the pandering we've had to gen 1 and Kanto in the series, but a part of me still gets excited when they do.

Generation 1 - Red and Blue:
The games that started it all, but nothing particularly special to me. While two of the most impactful games in history, looking back on it reveals a lot of its shortcomings. Of course, I cut it a lot of slack simply for being the first in the series
