I think it helped that the game was heavily focussed on colour silhouettes and had realtime lighting in it to support itself. But those areas in full shade definitely could do with some gradient love <3
There were a few exceptions where we used actual texture detail alongside gradients just to inform the player what a big flat plane was made out of.
at one point we had these bunuelos you could eat. don't think this made it into the final game though hah. All of these use gradient texturing.
@minionsart @WildlifeAlba It DOES have drawbacks though as was mentioned in @delaneykingrox 's thread. Lodding was an interesting challenge but @InstaLOD did the trick for us.
The Alba environment art thread has gotten a bit quiet. But not for good reason!
