@DamonBoyle1 @pkdan14850 That's the way I do my retro bases on my 80s and 90s models :) I paint the base green after putting sand on, then use a green shade over it and finally do a yellow drybrush. Gets that classic retrohammer base look :)
For a more modern look you can do it in greys/browns.

Pretty wierd to me that I've never seen gunpla-style model kits for Xenoblade "mecha".
