It just me or adult Ashe has lighter hair than his younger version? In some CG (and when comparing sprites) it's very noticeable. Anyway, it wouldn't be strange for the poor boy to have gray hair with so much stress.

Most likely he uses the glycerin (glycerol) dehydration technique. This is based on passing the flowers through a gradient of increasing concentrations of glycerol (and other things).
