For base layers, instead of a soft rounded brush, I mainly use a soft, roughly rectangular-shaped brush & apply a grainy texture to it.
I find it adds a nice amount of rawness while still blending smoothly when needed!

Base layer is coming along ✨
Once it's done, I'll do some blending & polishing; adding skin details after that
