With years of serving as a (well known) drill instructor, Maya was transferred to run tactical and heavy support for the team and disaster situations (as well as government representation as a deal struck by administration) in formation of EPD, that's publicized reason at least.
Edi Sylkas was born to an affluent family that became one of the main investors for ADC. When EPD was formed she was one of the prime candidates chosen for her high magic aptitude. Why she joined? She wanted to work with "an important friend" but wouldn't explain more.
