So I go back to my picture, add lights, some rim lights on Hori's and Buzen's hair , and a few strands to make them pop out more. After which I turned them in grayscale again. and they pop out a bit better this time around!

First of all, make a rough sketch! This is where composition will go so this is an important step to communicating what idea you have in mind. I do thumbnails on paper first before finally drawing it digitally. It helps you put a solid idea down.I put some other comp samples too!
