Hadn’t read children’s lit in a while, but I somehow stumbled on @Jared_Cullum’s Kodi, & I’m so glad that I did. The story is abt a girl who loves reading comics & is friends w/a bear, which already makes for a perfect story in my book. But the art, y’all…the art is DELIGHTFUL!
Visual references/redrawings in panel five:
6. Understanding Comics, @scottmccloud
7. Why Comics, Hillary Chute
all vis refs are redrawings of the original works.
1. Gianni De Luca’s adaptation of Hamlet (see @paul_gravett’s blog for more). Named after De Luca, this effect helps us compress multiple moments into a single pg
2. Bechdel’s take on de luca effect + a ref to Are You My Mother
Something really cool happened to me last week that I can’t share yet. But, it’s fascinating what good news/relief can do a person’s sleep. I know this is temporary, but I slept SO well this weekend that I actually feel properly rested! That feels...new

Doctor Mónica Lalanda (@mlalanda) generously translated my short comic on the many possibilities of the medium into Spanish! 😊 Images below ⤵️
Reposting #wip from last week to remind myself that as soon as I am done writing at least a vague script (it doesn’t even have to be complete Kay, just write the damn thing), I can get back to drawing again 😭

@Nsousanis Thank you! 😊Sometimes I still get giddy happy about the fact that all I have to do to complete this PhD is to keep immersing myself in comics and to keep drawing
