German-born surrealist #MaxErnst (1891–1976) died on 1 April in Paris. He was interred in Père Lachaise Cemetery in the 20th arrondissement. Picture: ‘The Robing of the Bride’ (1940) – finally got to sit in front of it on 1 April 2019 at the #PeggyGuggenheimMuseum in #Venice.

The Streatham-born blues singer/guitarist Jo Ann Kelly (1944–1990) died on 21 October. Her playing and attack were a revelation. She and Peter Emery moved in three doors from my parents in Mitcham and I never made the Jo Ann references in conversations until after she died.
