I find it much easier to get proportions right when I draw super tiny, so the thumbnail sketch is my go-to best friend... It really helps me see the big picture (LOL)
Teeny sketches are good for more complex art, but I LOVE the one-and-done kissy method too

Nowadays I almost always do a teeny tiny thumbnail sketch, print a blown up copy to redraw over, then scan and color online
For the more kissy art, I usually just draw it fullsized straight out and hold onto my eraser for dear life
