@AL_theBoi The early Mr. Hedgehog designs flirted with different quill amounts and shapes too, before they were eventually simplified to the iconic shape we're used to today.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with some deviation when a situation calls for it! The movies did that, and it was fun.

@AL_theBoi One way I look at Sonic's quills is from the angle taken when drawing fire and smoke. Poor drawing below for reference.

Would this fire & smoke hold this precise shape if it were brought into the real world? Likely not - this drawing simplifies the smaller details and nuances.
