I am going with the assumption that Hathor and Sekhmet are indeed the same goddess as per myth and hieroglyph clue. And there is a chance that the two are influenced by the mirror (or the eye of Ra) hence the sun symbol. No other child of Ra has the sun symbol on them+

Perhaps Osiris realized he could do more with an ascended Anubis, a way to bring Seth to him forever. Maybe it's easier to have someone who could go back and forth from Duat to the living realm to gather souls. I'm not certain if this was the reason, but god Anubis +

Osiris could've let the flower live on for as long as he needed to, but decided then and there to let the curse consume it.
It was to his benefit to have Anubis cry out to him and beg to be saved and eventually ascend thanks to Osiris' intervention +

Isis figured out Osiris was keeping Anubis alive after she gave Anubis medicine. The curse is constantly trying to kill him, and yet he says he feels better. Every time the curse tries to kill Anubis, Osiris revives the lotus. But during judgment, he simply lets it die. +

Anubis had 2 active curses: the growth curse and the souls curse. Once he found out Osiris was the father, he began to grow. He then began to rot away as well. Both curses working in tandem - one an inconvenience, the other one deadly. +
