I don't know Nintendo's stance about Indie game characters, But Shovel Knight and Shantae would be my picks.

The way I see it now, Steve from Minecraft has a better chance of getting in. Not because I want him there, but because of the impact the game had for an indie title.

Here's also my "Konami list" Characters that depend entirely on them to make an appearance.

I have little hope for Snake, I don't even know if the franchise is dead or not.

Bomberman of course.
