Welcome to day one of the #EviesChristmasWishes Advent Calendar! Today we are excited to share one of @ShannonBergin's beautiful illustrations from the book. Here we can see Evie rehearsing for the nativity play with her class. EVIE'S CHRISTMAS WISHES is out now!

Each page began with watercolour, some pencil was added and then each page was scanned. I then cleaned it up digitally and any edits that needed to be made were made digitally too.

The storyboards continuously evolved. You’ll see page 3 for example is almost exactly the page that is in the book, from the very first storyboard. 5-6 changes dramatically and 11 is a totally different idea.

I illustrated cards, and took on commissions and did any project that seemed interesting.
The cards in particular become relevant though because that’s what I sent to Little Island as samples of my work and as luck would have it, they needed an illustrator for a Christmas book

After college I was asked by @birrtheatre to have a solo show, I decided to make a book and the illustrations could be the exhibition and I would self publish it and sell the originals and prints to avoid the starving artist trope.
So came the book ‘How to Grow a Girl’

@elemcsherry (Q3 3/3) An outline tells me where the story is running into problems. I'll take it to a cafe then and let aflat white help me solve it. Sometimes being away fromt he desk helps so I can get quite nomadic until it works. #WritingWulfie The writing itself is a joy!
