Ended the weekend with another ljttle art stream on twitch, at first I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to do it with people watching but its actually really nice to make the work with some company. :)
Something fun and lighthearted today. I love to draw cute portraits as much as I enjoy drawing science. This one is for my friend @MicKasia who does amazing work on chronic infections caused by L-forms, bacteria without a cell wall. She is a real STEM hero ❤️
Did you guys watch the latest @ContraPoints video yet? It was splendid but I was sad to hear that she eventually did drop her phone in the bath. I also always bring my phone to the bath, I will not learn from her mistake.
The first talk at #BLASTXVI today was by @ScienceBarbie who talked about evolutionarily driven domain swapping and how this changes the expression of genes. #BLASTSciArt
Here is a little timelapse, you can see that I take some notes while working on the sketch and used a cheeky screenshot of the protein to make sure it looked right.
This piece is based on Alexandra Deaconescu her talk about the general stress response. DNA stress activates IraD, which causes RssB to undergo a conformational change from an open to closed conformation. This change is possible because of the highly flexible linker. #BLASTSciArt
David Hershey told us about his exciting Caulobacter flagellar mutants. I especially loved his 'doink' model. Can we give every model a name like this? #sciart #blastsciart #BLASTXVI
Todays #BLASTSciArt at #BLASTXVI is based on Arden Perkins his talk about how CZB domains help Helicobacter pylori recognize HOCl - bleach!
Here’s my first #blastsciart for #BLASTXVI based on Birgit Scharf her talk about bacteria-plant interactions.
@christo71213435 Bees, teach me your sweet sweet dancemoves and spatial insight!
