Last year I experimented with making a traditional media comic, it's the precursor to Haru. I don't want to share the whole thing because it may contain spoilers, but here are some pages that I think turned out kinda cute. These are acrylic inks on fairly small watercolour paper.
Late to the party, but it's #PortfolioDay apparently, so here's my two cents. I'm Joe, I'm an illustrator and designer based in Bristol (UK). I've done lots of work with bands over the years and now I'm passionate about making comics and books for younger people.
I made a short comic to welcome the new year. It’s ok to let bad relationships go. You are worth so much more than feeling like crap. RT’s hugely appreciated if you enjoy this or think others might enjoy. Thanks so much!
I thought I'd share the process I go through for creating a single panel in a comic. 1/ Blue pencil drawing 2/ Inking (with a Sable no.6 brush) 3/ Pick base colour 4/ Block in very rough colours with hard round brush. 5/ Paint the texture and add details 6/ Tidy it up & add text
Thought I'd share the process behind the front cover to Haru. Something I'm still really proud of. Using a strong Triangle-based concept, I start with a rough drawing in Blue. This time I did the inks in Procreate using one of the in-built brushes. Then colours on Photoshop.
Here's a handful of illustrations I did for an Explorer's expedition book. I've done 18 of these now. These are very fun to do, I use the Polygon lasso tool to draw shapes, and then I play with a couple of different brushes and build up the layers. It's quick and I did 3 this eve
My name is Joe, I am a freelance Illustrator and Designer.
I make comic books and I am working on various Graphic Novel and Picture Book pitches.
I want to make comics with cute critters that people care about.
Would anyone like a pre-thought bubble commission?
I probably have time to do a couple before the show, for collection at Thought Bubble this weekend.
Some A5 examples here... @ThoughtBubbleUK
I keep seeing things about it being Portfolio day, so here's a couple of things from mine I thought I'd share
