Lovi did end up having short hair --after saving Maria from being swallowed by dark magic-- with an eyepatch, living solely on the magic eye. Maria went from dark hair to light purple hair because of the effect of dark magic.

During this time, as months passed, she gets to witness Lovi slowly transitioning into a man; he gets taller, gains muscles, and becomes stronger, and his hair also becomes redder at this point.
