Never short of reasons to visit Bristol, but today I've been given a fantastic one! Delighted that 'Blackout' has been selected for the @RWABristol 169th open exhibition!
Congrats to all selected artists & commiserations to the many wonderful artists who missed out this time ❤️
It's 32°C in my studio, there's no getting away from it - it's red hot (sorry) - So I stopped fighting it, found the most blindingly sunshiny reference I could and lost myself in a drawing for a few hours. I'm still too hot.
On this day 2 years ago I painted this accidental Andy, 56 of my 100 heads challenge. I'd scrubbed it out a few times, getting more annoyed & running out of fucks to give, then suddenly it just turned out all weird & cool & I have no idea how or why... I'd make an awful teacher.
Paint does not behave in heat like this, so I'm not going to trifle with it today! Instead, here's one I finished a little while back. I always find brown eyes the most satisfying to paint - the reflections are so intense 🖤
