Throughout the show, we've seen Amity start to grow softer. People say she "lost her edge" but the thing is she never really wanted to be mean. It was a facade, a mask she had to put up to protect herself. Even in her "mean green" phase you can see how soft a person she really is

I cannot stress enough the amount of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse she has to go through for her whole life, just to prove her worth. To the point of being used as a ragdoll to a business presentation, and constantly monitoring her grades.

So we first see Amity as a type of closed off character who is mean, cold, and a bully. The first episode she's introduced immediately highlights that's she values being the top student more than anything. That more than anything, she values her supposed "title" over others.
