I throw a black multiply layer on top of everything and then paint the key light in white or bright white-ish yellow with the layer set to add. My bounce light is usually blue or purple. Then I do the eyes and hair.

The next thing I do is shade clothes with a round brush.
Then I reduce the opacity of lineart to 50%, set shading layer to multiply and merge. I turn my flats layer back on to see what this looks like before doing lights.

Lineart and flats next, usually fix any major anatomy issues

If Aku had eyebrows he’d simply be too powerful 💀
