This OVA is basically the prototype for the 1998 anime Fancy Lala, the Magic Stage. The anime is much easier watch, has character designs from Akemi Takada, and I feel the story is a lot more concise. The OVA was everywhere and is only around 40 minutes, at that.

It's also another magical girl idol show, the fifth one from Studio Pierrot. There have been speculations that it was cancelled due to a certain... really popular mg show that began airing on the same day as Fancy Lala, but I haven't seen sources for this yet.
