I also like seeing when the protagonist isn't the mascot but a different character or the mascot is. Super Doll Licca-chan has Doll Licca, Doll Izumi, and Doll Isamu. Onegai My Melody may not be a magical girl show but My Melo and Kuromi are the mg "living dolls" in the show.

Some magical girl shows just had these characters be humans (or at least look human-like and I rarely see that now.) Shamanic Princess had Graham, Jubei-chan has Koinosuke and Ayunosuke, and Arjuna gave us Chris (who is a mess, jfc.)
