Wario has rescued three female monarchs in his adventures. The first was Princess Peach in Super Mario 64 DS. The second is Princess Shokora, who died shortly thereafter. The third is Queen Merelda of the Shake Dimension, who was promptly thrown over Wario's shoulder.

There was a pitch by Archie Comics to Nintendo to create a comic series based on the Super Mario games, similar to Archie's Sonic and Mega Man runs. It would have been written by Ian Flynn, who now writes the IDW Sonic comics.
Sadly, Nintendo's Japanese office turned it down.
Despite the series' all-ages demographic, Mario characters do drink alcohol. Princess Peach and Bowser drink champagne in Super Mario Kart and Wario will stumble drunkenly when an enemy throws beer in Wario Land II. Both of these only occur in the japanese releases.
Princess Peach's Castle has seen several design alterations over the years. Despite this lack of consistency, the roof of the castle has almost always been some shade of red.
Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed in an interview that Super Mario Bros. 3 was a stage play. However, seeing as how recurring antagonists the Koopalings were introduced in this game first, this appears to be a stage rendition of an actual adventure that took place.
