How many Liverpool buildings do you recognize here? We can see the Town Hall and St Nicholas’, along with the spires of now long gone churches, St George and St Thomas.
This View of Liverpool c1811 from our collection was painted by Henry Freeman James.

The artist George Parker Greenwood (1850-1904) spent his early life at sea. His painting 'Celtic in the Mersey' depicts SS Celtic at anchor off the Liverpool landing stage.

This view of Liverpool in 1682 is one of the earliest paintings in the collection. The waterfront is barely recognisable, apart from St Nicholas Church on the left.

James Bell was said to be a seafarer and served on board SS Politician. He was listed in the 1905 Liverpool directory as a maritime artist.
