And maybe the red sphere in the middle of the staff is the crystal. Plus they look so alike. Belos is probably that old phillip dude from S2 E5. Maybe the palismens have a liquid or "blood" inside of them that gives them immortality.

I think his staff along with belos's staff have a amplifying crystal that gives them really strong powers bc they dont have natural magic. If you notice belos's staff is more mechanical then the golden guards. I think that's because his was a "prototype" of gg's.
