@HaloTheSeries I've been ruminating that question over the years with fan art. Here's my answer:
These are some of the renders that I'm most proud of. They caused a lot of trouble, frustration, and/or crashes, but I couldn't be happier with the results.
@z3n_y 1/???
Alright, so I'm not the best at explaining things, but the most important part of lighting are your shadows and highlights. That's how you define shapes. Unless you're going for horror, you want to keep your primary (key) light at least 45 degrees away from camera...
Here's the other 'gritty' grade I used before (and still think looks pretty good, just couldn't choose) and a screenshot for anyone interested in what it looks like inside SFM.
@DeltaHaloCRcore Would it be cheesy to share some of my favorite Halo aesthetics by including two of my scenes that were directly inspired by said aesthetic? (Infinite)
Awe, wonder, courage in the face of hopelessness, and badassery.
@MemeCryptum Guess I'll join in with some SFM scenebuilds.
(May or may not be a huge fan of the Post-War era between H3 and H4. Infinite's looking promising as well.)
Sometimes I think it's a miracle these scenes ever get finished, hah. I guess I'm posting these to show that scenebuilds don't start out looking all pretty and polished, so you just have to keep at it and don't get discouraged. Keep layering, keep refining lights, keep honing.
So, this isn't really meant to be artwork or a proper scenebuild or anything. Just messing around a bit while watching Live PD. Why a hawk and a cape?
...
I don't have an answer for that.
Drones are overrated?
