There are some fantasy RPG based on other media. for example ”KonoSuba TRPG”, ”Goblin Slayer! TRPG” , ”Log Horizon TRPG” ”DARK SOULS TRPG” are well known. But if you look across the scene, they are not that popular.

So look at the TRPG scene before the start of CoC boom. First, "Sword World RPG" (1989) triggered the first TTRPG boom. Sword World RPG is a fantasy RPG just like D&D, but it has a unique 2d6 System. the current edition "Sword World 2.5" was published in 2018.
