It’s interesting that in Excalibur her autonomy was challenged in different ways. She found herself at the whim of the higher ups in Otherworld to do what they want. Knowing that she is now accountable to only herself is thrilling. Her story possibilities are endless.

It makes the story in XOS and post all the more heartbreaking. After finally managing to get herself back in a way that she could control it was taken away again by Saturnyne and her friends. Shattered and put into a new body made from her. Still, she takes it all in stride.

Betsy’s battle with autonomy and her body was always a major staple of her comics career. Constantly finding herself in situations where people manipulated her or tried to be her she always fought to maintain herself.

Interesting how Betsy’s love of adventure devolved into reckless destructive behaviors. Hopefully we get more on how she’s better managing the affinity for danger with her new responsibilities. How she stops herself from straying back too far and when it’s necessary to indulge.
