Let's talk about this shot for a moment. The foreground element there is probably practical as is the sand to a certain point so they can get some footprints for IG-11. However, the background elements on the right side and the landscape are all created in Unreal Engine.

Thus ends Patlabor 2. One of my favorite movies for its stellar direction, incredibly well thought out and researched script, breathtaking visuals, and it's unabashed drive to critique post war Japan.
