Some animals are more resilient to the spores than others. The seagulls much like roaches will probably survive this apocalypse just fine. Other animals on the islands might not be so lucky.

When we designed the suits for the island's inhabitants we were inspired by medieval plague masks.

We eventually went with a more modern hazmat suit approach though that helped some of these people get off the islands safely.

We found Mo just chilling at the beach in an old @doppeltim comic and went from there. Her poncho was red in her first iterations until we settled for the bright yellow oilskin you see in the game.
