Supporter cards are all about a character, so they tend to have the individual be most of the artwork and then a suitable bg. We see the same tendency for "just character art overlaid on a random photograph" here quite often, but sometimes they feel present.
I think an important thing of interest with YGO Monsters is seeing how the background flashes and whatnot are carefully selected to fit their monster's theme. A very lightly defined forest that fades away from the foreground, bubbles and water surface patterns, etc, it's a style.
Zeromus EG is so strange and baffling for a variety of reasons, but one of them is that final Zeromus has this wonderful and distinctive horrible alien monstrosity design, and EG reduces all of that to some sort of bargain bin warrior creature. It's inexplicable
I think it's really funny that there was an FFIV rerelease in Japan that made the game easier and it inexplicably decided to change Zeromus's sprite to this fucking thing for no reason, so they made it into a random superboss in one of the remakes instead.
Official Ponyta has flames only at its knees, but I like how this sprite has flare all the way down. There's a cute impression of boots from the coloration.
i think nothing really exemplifies how much fairy fits into the universe quite as well as the fact that they were able to change like 20 mons to it and it made sense logically when they did. also, it was the name of an egg group for ages
