#OnThisDay 27 May 1595 - Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone, defeated the English forces of his brother-in-law, Sir Henry Bagenal, at the Battle of Clontibret in Co. #Monaghan; he was proclaimed a traitor at Newry in June.

This supplement was published #OTD 21 April 1894. It refers to the poverty in the #Aranislands or The Arans [na hÁrainneacha] a group of three islands - Inishmore, Inishmaan and Inisheer, located at the mouth of Galway Bay, on the west coast of Ireland.

The drawing is by Isa MacNie, and is part of the collection of theatre memorabilia donated to the NLI by architect Joseph Holloway.
