Go Nagai says that Mazinger Z's design was inspired by his precursor to Devilman, which was Demon Lord Dante.
As you can see, the face shape is very close. And the general color scheme sort of carries over
Funny how no matter which way Mazinger's Emperor of Darkness is portrayed (even called Hades sometimes), he always has his flame form.
In fact, the original take on the Emperor of Darkness is that he is just simply the flame form.
On a surface level, Mazinger Z and Getter Robo from a surface level seem pretty similar in concept of "giant robot is made to fight other giant evil things." But one way it differs, outside of some other details, is the protagonists' relationship to their machines. (1/6)
I'm gonna see about getting these guys from the Infinitism series.
Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger are from there Mazinger Z: Infinity versions, whereas Mazinkaiser, Grendizer, and Getter Dragon are based on the style of that movie despite not appearing in it.
No timeline can ever stop these warriors from being locked in eternal Kombat.
