The Gintama anime is now 17 years old and as time has passed my esteem for the series only continues to grow. Will always be thankful to Sorachi and the team at Sunrise and BNP for bringing this series to life and bringing smiles to fans all over the world.
Happy Birthday to one of my favorite characters Sakura Matou. A character whose life was consumed by tragedy and darkness but who did not let that define her. My appreciation for Sakura’s journey has only grown over the years and I’m happy she could find happiness and love.
Happy Birthday to Rin Tohsaka many people’s first anime crush and a wonderful demonstration of how to write a strong female while keeping her incredibly human. Her ability to be strict, kind, strong, vulnerable, and often times funny will always make her a special character.
An erotic thriller set in post WW2 Korea Opium completely captivates the reader. The narrative is extremely tight focusing on the romance between the female leads Maria and Kyeongju and how that romance unravels a conspiracy involving corruption, opium smuggling, and revenge.
Takeuchi really might have done his best character design work in FGO with Muramasa. The colors in each ascension are vibrant and do an excellent job of showcasing how Muramasa and Shirou are producers of hundreds of swords but each strove to make one perfect blade.
Gintama taught me that you don’t need anime arcs to be incredibly long in order to deliver great world building and character development. A testament to Sorachi’s ability as a writer to accomplish so much in arcs that were usually less than 15 episodes.
Happy Birthday to everyone’s favorite funny vamp Arcueid. Let her smile warm your heart this holiday season.
