In The Court Of The Crimson King, released 50 years ago today. Fantastic prog album and an iconic album cover I always fancied having a go at. #KingCrimson #robertfripp
Mostly I don’t need to agonise anyway. Like today I was thinking of drawing a Ginger Baker album cover, but I think Blind Faith is legally actionable and I’m not desperately keen on Clapton’s opinions either. But I have drawn Clement Freud and a Smiths cover, so...
By restricting myself to album covers I don’t have to agonise too much over what I’m going to paint, have a ready reference photo and listen to the album whilst I’m drawing. My non-music paintings are on another Instagram account, @ sketchhole https://t.co/P0pBGPl2RZ
One of the reasons for this is that I’ve not been drinking since the end of 2018. This meant that I needed to find another way to relax at the end of the day other than having a beer. This seems to work well.
Over the past couple of months I’ve been painting in the evenings to wind down, often album covers. Over 60 of these are at my Instagram account, @ longtimegoneart https://t.co/pehz70olFH
Rain Dogs by Tom Waits. Didn’t realise until drawing this that it isn’t Waits in the photo, but a couple in Cafe Lehmitz on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg shot by Anders Petersen. https://t.co/70kz4n7Ba5
