What I found on my CoUs:
1. Kendo is inspired by anime, "Rurouni Kenshin", which is also referenced by the kanji.
2. Not only does he wear "Sharingan" inspired earrings, but the zipper of his jacket also says "The Fourth Hokage", a homage to Minato Namikaze.
