Last week, we started exploring the history of our Castle. This time, we're looking at some of the changes Henry II made after The Anarchy, transforming Nottingham Castle from a military structure to a provincial palace 🏰

The original structure was made of timber and was a typical example of a Norman castle. However, after a series of attacks on the city and a change in custody, the castle needed a bit of a makeover ✨

That's all we're revealing today, but join us next week for more...👀

Today, we’re sharing a little bit about the original Nottingham Castle 👇

It all began with William the Conqueror's victory at the Battle of Hastings. There was barely a year of his reign when he was not suppressing a rebellion somewhere. The north were particularly rebellious.

Over the next three weeks, over 200 frames were smashed, with attacks almost daily in Arnold, Bulwell, Basford, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Woodborough, Lambley, Ilkeston and Mansfield.

It was Nottinghamshire's March of discontent! 🔨

Another masterpiece from Evelyn, age 10 🎨

Her mum said: "From her window she can see her classroom and the school field. She's missing being in school a lot so enjoyed doing this bit of art-work.”
