If you've tried to make a 2D game in @Unity3d that uses Sprites, Meshes & Particles, and you want objects to pass in front/behind each other depending on their position... you'll know its a bit of a nightmare
Here's a guide on how I've fixed it & (mostly) eliminated z-fighting:
