FANTASTIC FOUR #333: The evil clones of the FF have been charging the citizens of NY a “Fantasti-Tax”, and the Avengers are displeased. No matter. The clones are whisked away to face the real deal and the Frightful Four in a battle royale.
FANTASTIC FOUR #332: It’s the Torch’s turn to dream in suspended animation, and we watch as he imagines Crystal returning to the FF after divorcing Quicksilver. Her presence stirs up old emotions, new tensions, and startling revelations.
Again, this appears to have been another story that was rejected and then repurposed into a meaningless dream.
FANTASTIC FOUR #331: This time, we check in on Reed’s dreams while he’s in suspended animation with the rest of the FF. He ponders an adventure in which his beloved computer turns out to be Ultron in disguise, with a brand new plan for world domination.
Listen, I like WHAT IF stories, but I like them in the pages of WHAT IF, not in a canonical monthly title where they’re presented as dreams and have no bearing on anything in the “real” world.
Much of this issue is like a bizarro world version of the FF’s first encounter with the Mole Man, with scenes and dialogue lifted from FF#1, and placed slightly askew.
FANTASTIC FOUR #329: Aron the Rogue Watcher has placed the Frightful and Fantastic Fours in suspended animation, and dispatched his clones of the heroes to live out adventures the way he would like to have seen them. First up: the FF vs. the Mole Man, of course!
INCREDIBLE HULK #363: Dr. Doom convinces Gray Gargoyle to confront Hulk and turn him to stone, but not even being turned into a statue is a match for Hulk’s nasty temper.
INCREDIBLE HULK #362: Hulk is attacked in the desert by the Werewolf by Night, but the sun comes up, and both transform back to human forms. The following night, Wolfy sets his sights on Marlo, though, and Hulk has to intervene.
