Geosmin is a bicyclic alcohol produced by various bacteria noted for its distinct "earthy" scent. It is a component of Petrichor, the famous smell experienced just after some rain. I've had first hand experience of it when culturing 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘺𝘤𝘦𝘴 from soil samples!
