Now this is an interesting object. A painting of factory workers framed in wood to resemble a giant cog. Every worker is a cog in the wheel of industry, great metaphor! Unfortunately I didn't record anything of the artist or who made this work when I downloaded the pic in 2014.

Industry and the spectacle of nature combine to make amazing works of art. 🙂

The secret to making beautiful paintings out of grim or uninteresting subject matter is often to infuse them with strong light and colour. Artist Derek Buckner turns industrial gloom into the fascinatingly beautiful in this way. Check out that glistening light. 👍

I like a principled artist with character. Albert Turpin of the East London group fits the bill perfectly. A window cleaner, artist, activist, fireman, and more. When I saw the quote below I also knew that Albert was a kindred spirit. His story is here. https://t.co/RzfA8rJI5b

Sunnyside Mill Bolton was built in 1860 and features in many of Roger Hampsons' paintings. The Mill closed in 1980 and was left to fall into disrepair until it was finally and tragically demolished in 2016. There even a tunnel present for 👍

Looking through last years auction results can be useful for prices, although it can lead to kicking yourself 'cause you missed a bargain! That's how I came across these two.🤨Both ready framed and a good size too. Unless I'm mistaken they went for £80 and £25 respectively. 😮

Two works from 1930's German expressionist painter Karl Hofer. The first is titled 'Unemployed' and the second 'Man in Ruins'. I think if you needed cheering up a bit old Karls' house might not be your first port o' call. 😉

Art from the American depression era often illustrates the plight awaiting many of us 'just around the corner'.😟 Artist Mervin Jules (1912 - 1994) studied under Thomas Hart Benton, he often depicts the joblessness and evictions of those troubled times.
