Lastly, the Mini Lop Jackalope is the most popular for a child’s pet, both because of their tiny antlers and their gentle, calm personalities.
The Angora Jackalope needs to be sheared, as it does not molt its exceptionally fine fur. Antlers are light colored, even in dark individuals, and tend to be plain but sturdy. Large size, up to 15 lbs, but docile. They come in many colors but are mostly white or black.
Next is the Black and Tan (or Chocolate and Tan, as seen here) raised for exhibition and antlers. More hare-like in their build, their deceptively strong musculature helps to support their breathtaking antlers. Hard to perfect, since antler set is not apparent as juveniles.
I made little jackalope paintings. Let us examine the five heritage breeds of jackalope.
First is the standard American jackalope, raised for meat. Tends to be large, gray or white. Since their antlers are of less concern to the breed standard, they may have poor antler set.
