In the Evangelion proposal (from 1993 if I'm not mistaken) from what I can tell the plugsuits already almost look like the show's before Asari's redesign of Sachiel.

The Queen Mansa from Gundam ZZ does feel like it is descended from the of an Aura battler from Dunbine. It is not lost on me that it is piloted by Puru II who is sometimes called a Fairy.
